Greeting Cards

Some of my artwork can be seen on stationary. Ray Hooper, of Ray Hooper Designs, LLC, sent me samples not too long ago. There are memo pads and blank books, too. Thanks, Ray! They really do look great.

Feeling the love…

The world sends its love…or maybe it was just the trash man. No matter, I’m still feelin’ it. My valentine cookies didn’t turn out as pretty as I would have liked, but they were still tasty. My Valentine liked them and, really, that’s all that matters, mainly because he’s going to have to eat them all.

On another topic, I ran into this article on Forbes.com that totally flipped me out: How To Make A Million Before You Turn 20. Inspiring, but still, somehow, makes me feel inadequate. Hey, maybe one of my offspring will make a million before 20! No pressure, kiddos.

Happy Valentines Day.

Last year we discovered that B’s mom’s great-relative had been given credit for selling the first Valentines cards:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Esther Howland (1828 - 1904) was an artist and businesswoman who is responsible for popularizing Valentine’s Day greeting cards.

She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1847 at the age of 19. Howland received an ornate English Valentine from a business associate of her father and began to create and market her own brand of Valentine’s Day greeting cards. She employed friends and developed a thriving business which she eventually sold in 1881.

I think it’s pretty cool, but I’m pretty sure not everyone thinks so, particularly those who practice antivalentinism. What used to be something pretty genuine has turned into a very commercial holiday. Frankly, I think EVERY holiday has turned commercial. Whatever. I’m going to make cookies for my Valentine. This should be fun!

Bliss

My pal, Lisa, is getting hitched this Saturday! I’m so happy for her and her new man. Perfect week, too, since it’s all about amoré. She really loves him despite his history of being Jock Strap Boy. Cute stuff.

Bravo!

I like Suzi Blu. Now, go out there and draw!

Must read!

Everyone, I mean EVERYONE, should read this book. It’s a quick read and totally empowering.

“This is a book about making art. Ordinary art. Ordinary art means something like: all art not made by Mozart. After all, art is rarely made by Mozart-like people; essentially-statistically speaking-therearen’t any people like that. Geniuses get made once-a-century or so, yet good art gets made all the time, so to equate the making of art with the workings of genius removes this intimately human activity to a strangely unreachable and unknowable place. For all practical purposes making art can be examined in great detail without ever getting entangled in the very remote problems of genius.”–from the Introduction

My blog has given up the ghost so we must start anew. No worries. Everything happens for a reason, right?
